Eagle Medicine, animal totems (2.23.14)

Good morning. Happy Sunday.

This past week I saw two eagles on my way to town. They were in about the same place along the highway, but I saw them on two different days. They both flew over the car as we drove along. One was a Golden Eagle, and the other was a Bald Eagle. It was pretty amazing. One eagle makes me take notice for sure, but two makes me wonder what the spiritual message is.

Eagle medicine is pretty powerful stuff. It puts a person right up there in the spiritual realm, flying higher than material reality.

There is a hill on the way to Taos from up north, where we are, that descends Garrapata Ridge. It is a steep incline, and really scares me in the winter. As we go down the giant hill, I have taken to closing my eyes and pretending I was a bird in flight, sailing down the hill, feeling the wind rush past, and admiring the view from up high. I always picture myself as a Red-tailed Hawk as I descend the hill, which is pretty majestic in and of itself. Sure, I am taking liberties with my fantasy, but it sure feels good to be up there in the sky, flying on the wind, instead of stuck in some fast moving car, fighting an anxiety attack.

I did not connect my Red-tailed Hawk adventure with the Eagles, until I saw the Bald Eagle. Bald Eagles always make me sit up straight and really take notice. They allow me to reconnect with spirit and ask myself what is going on with me in the spiritual realm. I never saw a Bald Eagle until we moved to Taos this time. Then I began to see them here and there...one over near the Earthship we rented...one on the way up to Antonito as we were moving to the farmhouse we are in now.

So, seeing eagles, at least for me, is fairly uncommon and extremely exciting. The question is, what does it all mean?

When I think about animal medicine, I try to take in the immediate feelings I get when a particular animal comes to me or crosses my path. In the case of eagles or hawks, it is always spiritual. I like to use a particular book called Animal-Speak: the Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great and Small by Ted Andrews (published by Llewellyn Publications 2000, copyright 1993 Ted Andrews). This is a great source for me to find out what particular animal totems mean, not only in Native American culture, but in other cultures worldwide and throughout time.

There is a lot of information about eagles and spirituality in Andrew's book, but the gist of it is that eagles come to represent spiritual connection, creativity, healing and working with emotion to better connect to spirit.

Well, this is certainly where I am now, and have been for a while actually, as I try to further my spiritual knowledge, learn more holistic and alternative healing methods, honor my creativity through art, and work through my emotions, which seems to never end. As I go within myself I discover the path to spirit or Source. As I work through my emotional reactions and become the witness to my physical self, I become closer to being one with my higher self/spirit. As I soar above the material world, I gain perspective and learn to see from a higher view, to see the bigger picture and how it is all connected--how I am connected to All That Is.

I enjoy the messages from the Universe, and animals have a way of communicating directly with our spirits, if we take the time to notice and listen.

This week, take special notice of the animals around you. How do they make you feel on a deeper level? A lot of the communication comes from animal totems when you take the time to really feel what the spirit of the animal represents to you. You don't need a book to make the connection, but if you are interested in learning more about animal totems, there are many books available, and possibly available at your local library. The internet is also a great source for research.

Take the time to make connections in your life, not only with friends and family, but with nature. tTe trees, the rivers, the wind, the sky...the animals are all speaking to us on a deep level. Are we willing to listen?

Love to all.

Personal Power (2.16.14)

Good Morning. Happy Sunday!

In the face of all the environmental degradation occurring around us, we have to again consider what we can do? Is there really anything that will make a difference as our government continues to ignore the consequences of pursuing unclean fossil fuel extraction.

On a personal level, we can choose to find our own personal power in our own lives and do what seems to have the most impact for each of us. If that is protesting another fracking site, or standing in the way of another leg of the Keystone XL pipeline, so be it and more power to you. We need more actual resistance to get the message across that we just are not interested in the old solutions to solve our energy problems. However, these acts of resistance do not come without risk, as we watch again and again peaceful protesters being arrested and going to trial for their "crimes." What about the crimes of humanity against the Mother Earth?

I suspect all of this craziness in the United States that encourages jailing of citizens for rather benign "crimes" is related to the prisons for profit industry (but that is a whole different subject).

Today I'd rather focus on our personal power, and what we can do as individuals to make a difference as our planet cries out to be healed. We do not have to go as far as putting ourselves directly on the front lines of this war against climate change. Instead, we can make lasting and major impacts in our daily living that will send a clear message that we have had enough. As more people follow this example, things will change, and hopefully sooner, rather than later.

So, what can we do? We can garden...in our backyards, in community gardens, or even in containers on our porch. We can search out and find clean organic seeds, local if possible. We can save our seeds and share them. We can join Community Supported Agriculture if we can't garden, or even to supplement our own homegrown food. Many CSA programs offer meats as well as fruits and vegies. Be sure your farmer is farming organically and/or using clean and natural methods to grow produce and livestock.

We can start shopping locally, but even more extreme, start shopping in thrift stores and at garage sales. We need to re-use instead of promoting the production of more goods. Of course we need to recycle whatever we can. Put as little as possible in the landfills. Compost organic materials. Begin to barter among friends and neighbors. Many social networks have groups for doing this.

Stop buying GMO products. Buy organic and send the message that GMO's are not what we want on a global scale. Boycott those companies who have given money to defeat the GMO labeling bills. Many of them are "organic" companies. Be careful and do your research.

Stop supporting Big Pharma and the Industrial Medical Complex if you can. Believe it or not, there are many successful and alternative healing methods. Of course if you are entrenched in the system, you will need counseling and guided help to extract yourself in a healthful way. Seek out Naturopathic doctors who can help you with both traditional and nontraditional types of healing.

The best way to avoid being involved in Big Medical is of course to take care of yourself, and eating organic food goes a long way in the right direction. Starting a meditation program will also help. As we all begin to align ourselves with how we are supposed to eat and take care of our bodies, our energetic vibrations will change and we will begin to heal on many levels. As we begin to live with the Earth, as we are supposed to , in a natural way, not only will our bodies and spirits thank us, but we will also begin to heal our planet in major ways.

It's all about flexing our own personal power. We can make some changes that will benefit not only our planet, but also our own lives in positive ways. We have the power within us to decide we want to be a part of the climate solutions and not continue to contribute to the same old mainstream paradigm that has helped to create this climate crisis. We must change our thinking if we expect things to change. Never forget that all things and situations begin with a thought.

Personal Power. I have the power within me to help my Mother Earth, and also help myself and humanity. Do you? What can we do today to move in the right direction and away from our dependence on fossil fuels and mainstream materialist culture?

Love to all.

Loss of life on planet Earth (2.9.14)

Good Morning. Happy Sunday!

This week I'd like to spend some time thinking about what we can do for our planet Earth to help her overcome her sickness, created by mankind's greed. I have read some alarming new articles this past week, that suggest that the carbon output on Earth will increase by 30% by the year 2035. This is horrendous news and puts the fate of humanity and all of life on Earth into a new perspective. Every day there are around 1000 species going extinct on our planet. Every single day. This is pretty incredible.

And still, most of us go about our business unaware and completely removed from these statistics. Most of us continue on in our materialistic lives, puppets of our own selfish egos, uneducated about climate change and in many cases unwilling to do anything different in our own lives to make any kind of lasting difference.

Well, I suppose we can play it that way, and hope we all find our spiritual enlightenment as we come to the end of the existence of the human race. One way or another, I imagine, we will all find our connection with all that is, whether that be by living more consciously, or by dying more consciously as the end arrives for life on Earth.

We are in the middle of a mass extinction event. This seems pretty clear to me as more and more species disappear daily. As humans continue to live unharmoniously with nature, we will continue to upset the balance of life on our planet, until eventually this place we call home will no longer be able to support life at all.

So, I ask you now, how important are more fossil fuels? How badly do we need more dirty energy sources? What can each of us do in our own live to make a real change, and to instigate change in others around us? What can we do to turn the balance in our favor so that humanity can continue to exist on this planet we call home?

It is time to get serious and begin a real dialogue about how we can work together to change the outcome for humanity, for if we continue on our merry way, the reality seems to indicate that there just isn't much time left for the human race.

And we CAN do this, if we change our thinking and work together to approach the problems of climate change, or climate survival, in a new way.

So, I ask you, on this Sunday morning, how do you want to proceed?

Love to all.

Detoxification (2.2.14)

Good morning. Happy Sunday!

I have been having trouble coming up with something to write about this week. So, I'll just describe my week long experience.

As you may know, or not, I have been water fasting for a while now. I decided to end my fast after ten days, which was yesterday, because I just did not have the time to dedicate to resting continuously. I was feeling pretty weak, trying to maintain my current lifestyle and do my part to take care of the family and the farm. So, I ended the fast.

I never had any great epiphanies, although that may have been because I simply did not fast long enough. What I did have was some emotional cleansing, as well as detoxifying my body. I guess we hold onto old emotions, like anger and pain, in the cells of our bodies, and when we do an extended detox, those feelings come out.

And, that's okay, but I was believing I was having some kind of message from the Universe, when instead I was just regurgitating old crap from my past. I said some things I shouldn't have to people close to me, when instead I should have remained silent and rode it out. I am sorry for that.

At the end of my fast, I was so eager to eat all of the wonderful foods my family has been eating all along, that I pushed a little too hard. While I did not eat much--my stomach just won't allow for it--I did eat a bit too heavy, instead of sticking to the juice regimen recommended. Last night, and this morning, I am still paying for it. My gluttony did nothing good for me.

I have continued to receive signs from the Universe in terms of great big NOs, as far as relocation destinations, and maybe in my fasting state I have been more open to receive and let go of the ideas I had for those particular places.

In the end, I learned some things about my body and myself. I recommend a detoxification program, whether that be water fasting or juice fasting, to everyone. In today's world, we are filled with contamination, not only from our food, but also from the air we breathe, and it does a body good to take some time to get some of that poisonous gunk out and have a chance to rebuild healthy, clean cells.

It is also good to get some of those old emotions out, but be careful, and remember that they are simply old feelings, resurfacing, and should not be used against anyone. Those old feeling can help us to work through our own stuff and maybe make decisions about what is best for our future, but it never does anyone any good to simply start accusing and attacking.

A good detox program will clear up your mind and body and allow you to think more clearly as you move forward. It will also give your body a rest and a boost to better health, which is a something we all need from time to time. Do some research and find a detoxification program that works for you and your lifestyle before you commit. It does indeed take some will power to get through, but in the end you will come out stronger, healthier and be better for it.

Love to all.

Have a wonderful day!
